I've gotten sick from food, what can I do to feel better?

  • Call your health care provider for advice. Tell them you think you have a foodborne illness. Ask if they want to see you.
    • Call or go to your health care provider right away if you or the family member is in a high-risk group: infants, preschool children, adults 65 years and over, pregnant or nursing women, or immuno-compromised children or adults.
    • Call your health care provider if symptoms last for more than 3 days.
  • Drink fluids to stay hydrated. Good choices include: water, apple juice, and tea.
  • Do not take over-the-counter medications without a health care provider's advice. It may prolong the symptoms.
  • Eat easy to digest foods - bananas, apples, saltines, toast, rice, etc. Slowly expand your diet, as you feel better.
