Economic Contribution of Agriculture to the New Jersey Economy

First Paragraph:
This publication is intended to inform policy making and industry leadership by measuring the composition, size, and economic significance of New Jersey’s agriculture industry. The impact on the State economy is quantified using measures of land use (acreage), direct gross output (sales), and employment (workers), as well as by assessing the economic linkages between the agricultural sector and other supporting industries. The first section of this report provides a basic profile of New Jersey agriculture using data from the 2017 Census of Agriculture. Next, estimates of the total economic contribution of NewJersey’s agriculture are presented, including the multiplier effects from businesses and household spending of workers in agriculture and related sectors.
