2024 Vegetable Integrated Pest Management Delivery Program

During the 2024 growing season, the Rutgers Cooperative Extension (RCE) Vegetable Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program will provide the following support to enhance the adoption and utilization of Integrated Pest Management in New Jersey vegetable crops.

Programs Available

Insect Trapping Program

An insect monitoring service utilizing blacklight and/or pheromone traps is available to growers statewide. Traps are monitored twice a week. Insect populations are recorded on charts posted at the farm and data are processed for publication in the Rutgers Plant & Pest Advisory and Ag Pest Monitor websites. The main pests monitored include adult corn earworm (CEW) and European corn borer (ECB), which are pests of sweet corn, peppers, tomatoes, beans, lettuce, and white potato. Additional pests may be monitored as needed or on a trial basis.

On-Farm Integrated Pest Management Program

Rutgers Cooperative Extension Integrated Pest Management staff will provide on-farm insect and disease pest management services that include field scouting for the crops listed below in areas where private services are not available. RCE Vegetable IPM staff will train growers or grower-employed scouts on request. For specific information on the availability of RCE or private scouting services in your area, contact the Vegetable IPM Coordinator at the Office of Pest Management at the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences.

1A seasonal Base Fee of $450 per farm is charged to each participant regardless of the number of crops enrolled in the program. The blacklight trap fee of $450 is included in the base fee charge.
