Livestock and Poultry Veterinary Care Services Series, Part III: State Resources

  1. Reporting of Zoonotic Disease Outbreak
    As an owner of a food and fiber animal that can acquire and infect other animals or humans, it is your responsibility to be aware of these reportable diseases and report them to the state veterinarian without delay, reporting any case within 48 hours (N.J. Administrative Code 2: 2-1.5), either directly or through your veterinarian. In New Jersey, the state veterinarian is the Director of the Division of Animal Health.

  6. Rutgers Cooperative Extension Animal Waste Management Planning
    Rutgers Cooperative Extension will provide educational support for those needing to complete AWMPs. Educational meetings around the state about Animal Waste Management Plans (AWMPs) will be scheduled as needed. Please contact your local County Extension office for assistance.
  7. Animal Emergency / Disaster Preparation
    A disaster can impact livestock on farms and residential properties in New Jersey. Though larger livestock groups might be sheltered in-place, other arrangements might be necessary, such as moving livestock to nearby fairgrounds in an emergency.

    Diagnostic testing services offered support disease control programs, health management, and productivity of livestock, equine, poultry, fish, and wildlife; The laboratory provides fast, accurate, convenient, and cost-effective services to diagnose diseases in dogs, cats, exotics, and other pets; it serves as an expert veterinary diagnostic resource to state agencies, federal agencies, veterinarians, clinics, animal organizations, and universities.
  9. Fair and Show (NJ) Animal Health Regulations
    Each year the New Jersey Department of Agriculture issues recommendations prior to the fair and show season, This is a review of existing rules and regulations, including the NJ Fairs and Shows Health Certificate.

New Jersey Administrative Code

  1. Chapter 2. Disease Control Program
    Reportable Diseases, Brucellosis Control and Eradication, Tuberculosis Control and Eradication, Swine Disease Control, Bovine Leucosis Program, Swine Pseudorabies Virus, Poultry Disease Control, Records of Cattle, Sheep and Swine Dealers.
  2. Chapter 3. Livestock and Poultry Importation. Interstate health certificate to accompany animals entering the state (PDF)
    “All livestock and poultry moved into New Jersey, except for slaughter, shall be accompanied by an official Certificate of Veterinary Inspection approved by the livestock disease control agency of the state of origin. A Poultry Inspection Certificate conforming with the requirements of N.J.A.C. 2:9-1.3 may be used for poultry being transported directly to live bird markets and auction markets in lieu of the Certificate of Veterinary Inspection. A Veterinary Services (VS) Form 9-3 may be used for poultry in lieu of the Certificate of Veterinary Inspection.” -  As written in Chapter 3, Livestock and Poultry Importation that expires on March 22, 2024.
