A Public Presentation Given by a 4‑H Member in Front of a Group
Presentations are a product of the 4‑H emphasis on members teaching others what they know. One of the best ways to teach is to demonstrate how something is done. Here are four types of presentations that will effectively communicate a member’s thoughts and ideas.
Demonstrations: Show how a task is done, or a product is made. For example, show how to make a milkshake or how to groom a rabbit. This presentation should have props and a finished product.
Illustrated Talk: Present information with the aid of posters, models, charts, slideshows, props, or other media.
Formal Speech: This may be an original speech or poem written by the 4‑H member, or a selection from the work of another individual with reference. This should be recited from memory.
Performing Arts: Includes dramatics, oral interpretation of literature, creative movement and dance, musical performance, puppetry, etc.
Benefits of Public Presentations Given by the 4‑H Members
- Presentations allow 4‑H members to gain confidence while speaking in front of an audience.
- Presentations can make club meetings more interesting, informative, and member-centric.
- Planning a presentation is an incentive to learn more about a topic.
- Presentation experience helps 4‑H members gain poise and self-confidence over time and with practice.
