According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, more than 28 million Americans are at risk for osteoporosis. Ten million individuals already have the disease and 18 million more have low bone mass. Over 80% of those at risk are women. This means that females have a higher risk of developing osteoporosis than males. Men do get osteoporosis but at much lower rates, later in life, and for different reasons than women.
