Money 2000TM Awards

Money 2000 and Beyond Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station (NJAES) Cooperative Extension is receiving state and national recognition for its development of the Money 2000™ program. Money 2000™ was developed to encourage New Jersey residents to set a personal savings and/or debt reduction goal and to take action to achieve it by the end of the year 2000. In June 1998, a proclamation was issued by New Jersey governor Christine Todd Whitman recognizing the effectiveness and impact of Money 2000TM. As of January 2001, over $7 million of increased savings and reduced debt had been reported by over 1,800 New Jersey participants. The program has been replicated in over 30 states. Below are awards that Rutgers Cooperative Extension has received to date for Money 2000TM from various professional associations:

  • USDA Honors Award, July 2002 | Photos
  • Outstanding Educational Program Award, Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education, November 2001.
  • The Money 2000TM research paper, Successful Financial Goal Attainment: Perceived Resources and Obstacles, was recognized with the Best Applied Journal Article Award in November 2001 by the Association For Financial Counseling and Planning Education (AFCPE). Co-authors include Rutgers Cooperative Extension faculty Barbara O'Neill and Pat Brennan, as well as Jing Xiao and Claudia Kerbel (University of Rhode Island) and Barbara Bristow (Cornell University).
  • The Money 2000TM research paper, "Application of the Transtheoretical Model of Change to Financial Behavior" was recognized with a $1,000 prize for the 2001 CFP Board's ACCI Financial Planning Paper Award. The award was presented at the American Council on Consumer Interests (ACCI) 2001 annual meeting in Washington. D.C. in April 2001. Co-authors include Rutgers Cooperative Extension faculty Barbara O'Neill and Pat Brennan, as well as Jing Xiao, Janice Prochaska, Barbara Bristow, and Claudia Kerbel.

  • AAFCS Family Economics/Resource Management Division Educational Program Award, June 1999
  • Cook College Team Award, April 1999
  • Northeast Extension Directors' Award of Excellence, February 1999
  • Epsilon Sigma Phi (national Extension honorary fraternity) Regional Team Award, December 1998
  • Florence Hall Award from the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences for development of an outstanding Extension educational program, October 1998
