Q: I have raccoons on my property, what general information do I need to know?
A: Raccoons are easily recognizable by the black mask on their faces and by their bushy tails ringed with black. Raccoons are primarily forest animals and consume both plant and animal foods. During the spring their diet consists mainly of insects, fish, frogs, turtles and their eggs, young ground nesting birds, and mice. During late summer and fall they also feed on nuts, berries, grains, fruits, and garden crops.
Note: Information attained from RCE fact sheet FS566, Wildlife and Homeowners: What's Best for Raccoons, McLaughlin and Vodak.
