A: There are over 1,000 species of spiders in the United States. They live almost everywhere, including in and on dwellings.
Spider infestations are common in basements, beneath porches, crawl spaces, false ceilings, attics, around windows and light fixtures. In areas where spiders are a problem, webs should be removed and egg sacs crushed or destroyed. This procedure will reduce spider populations so insecticides will not have to “work” so hard to get satisfactory control. For information on insecticides for spider control contact your local county extension office. Information from Spiders, by Louis M. Vasvary.
