The Rutgers Gardens: A green oasis along Rt. 1.

The Rutgers Gardens is a green oasis along Route 1 with acres of exotic trees, gurgling streams, rolling open meadows, and gardens of exotic herbs, colorful flowers, and fl owing grasses. Visitors come to the gardens for its serene nature and the multitude of colors. It is a place to walk the dog, watch for birds, and learn about plants.

Why Support the Rutgers Gardens?

The Rutgers Gardens is self-supporting. The generosity of its members and volunteers makes it possible for the gardens to continue to operate and help the community. The gardens provide a valuable resource for central New Jersey, offering garden-related educational and recreational opportunities, including outreach programs about best management practices for home and small business gardens. Gardening classes are held year-round and are designed to appeal to gardeners and non-gardeners alike. Volunteers can "adopt" a garden to maintain throughout the season. Rutgers faculty perform small-scale research demonstrations geared for the public.

The gardens offer horticultural collections featuring landscape plants from around the world, as well as many developed at Rutgers. Groups can take a scheduled tour to learn about the garden's illustrious history and its latest additions. The facility also offers a venue for both public and private events.

The Rutgers Gardens is also planning for the future. A conservatory, improved walking paths, new programs for children, research opportunities for Rutgers students, and home demonstration areas are just a few of the improvements.

The Rutgers Gardens presently provides a natural and serene learning environment for its visitors. With proper planning and management, it can be even more valuable to people in the surrounding communities without harming its peaceful solitude. Contact us for more information.
